At this time, the plan is for a normal winter season. That means that practice will start for basketball on November 2nd. Scrimmages will start on November 9th. Preseason tournaments can begin the weekend before Thanksgiving. The regular season will begin on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
The online NFHS certification exam will be available beginning Monday, September 28th. This testing period will end October 30th. You will have three chances to achieve a passing grade of 70. This exam certifies you to work varsity games.
The state clinic is going to be online again this year. It is supposed to be available beginning on Monday, September 28thand needs to be completed no later than October 30th. The link will be available via the SCHSL website. I will send out an email with the link once it becomes available.
THERE WILL BE NO CLOSED BOOK EXAM THIS YEAR. The SCHSL has been unable to obtain the necessary facilities to do this. This has no effect on this year’s rating. Your exam score from last year is the one used to calculate your rating for this season. How this will be handled in 2021 is not clear yet. Transfers coming in from other states will receive a special test to obtain a score to use for the rating. This will be administered locally.
The business meeting that always preceded the exam will take place via Zoom this year. Details will be sent out later. The meeting will occur on Saturday, November 14th, beginning at 10 AM.
